The Coney Island Y celebrated its ribbon cutting today and will open to members on December 16.
The 44,000 square foot facility at Surf Avenue and 29th Street suffered a three-month delay in the aftermath of Superstorm Sandy, which flooded the project. The new Coney Island Y offers a lap pool and a family recreational pool, a gymnasium with a full-sized basketball court, a cardiovascular exercise and weight room, and several multipurpose rooms. The new facility adjoins the Coney Island Commons, the Dattner Architects-designed 195-unit affordable housing development.
