Located in Bedford-Stuyvesant, this facility will provide a new home for Brooklyn’s District 3 Department of Sanitation team. Developed to accommodate 68 sanitation vehicles and 120 personnel, the garage provides departmental vehicle storage areas and repair facilities, below-grade parking for employee and small departmental vehicles, as well as associated personnel and office spaces. Designed to meet LEED Silver certification, the design incorporates a vast 46,000 sf / 1+ acre extensive green roof with native plant species which protects the roof membrane, enhances storm water retention and thermal performance, and softens the view from the surrounding buildings. The project’s active design elements include a main stair with a skylight and views into the garage, located off an ample central lobby with views outside to encourage stair use.
