Located in the Soundview section of the South Bronx, this five-story residential development intends to provide transitional housing to homeless families with children from the community, as well as early childhood education and after-school enrichment programs along with employment training for residents and the community at-large. Envisioned as a community residential resource center, the mixed-use building includes 99 residential studios, in addition to a culinary education space – accommodating a comprehensive culinary workforce development program.

This facility derives its form from embracing site and regulatory factors, resulting in a unique “pinwheel” design with outdoor open spaces for communal gardening and children’s play. By incorporating active design and creating a safe and secure space, this temporary home provides families the resources and support needed to begin again, and live an independent and fulfilled life.
