Dedicated to socially responsible design, Jen Switala believes that architecture evokes something different in each individual, and that this variety of experience creates a meaningful complexity to the urban realm. Particularly interested in urban ecologies, waterfront environments and access, and resiliency through design, Jen is involved with Dattner Architects’ R&D Lab, the firm’s research and development group, focused on examining vital issues confronting our urban environment now and in the future. Jen has gained experience in a wide variety of project typologies, including affordable and supportive housing, mixed-use buildings, and cultural institutions. As an Adjunct Professor at New Jersey Institute of Technology, she taught both undergraduate and graduate level courses, which continues to inform her approach to practice as both a leader and a mentor.
Jen holds a Bachelor of Science in Architecture from the University of Minnesota and a Master of Architecture from New Jersey Institute of Technology. She is a licensed architect in New York, and an active member of AIA and the Beverly Willis Architecture Foundation’s Emerging Leaders Program.
