Heather McKinstry to Present Innovative Passive House Project at Regenerative Metropolis
Heather McKinstry, a leading voice in sustainable architecture, will be a featured speaker at Regenerative Metropolis, a day-long symposium on Passive House which will be held on September 26, 2025 in Manhattan. The conference will highlight Passive House’s reliable and superior energy performance and myriad of co-benefits, as the foundation upon which we can ‘build a regenerative society that repairs ecosystems damage, reverses it, and begins to increase all life.’
Heather McKinstry’s presentation during the Multifamily + Regeneration Panel will spotlight one of her recent projects: WSFSSH at Lot 26 is a 12-story, 84-unit affordable housing project, currently under design, located in one of the most expensive zip codes in the country. This session will describe how the Dattner Architects-led design team was able to leverage interest in Passive House to discuss a variety of sustainability measures for inclusion in the project, all in support of the team’s goals, and explain how these shared goals allowed the design team to explore strategies that are not typically seen in affordable housing. Measures researched include material selection, inclusion of on-site renewable energy solutions, and the design of the units themselves, all leading to a project that won Round 1 Future Housing Initiative funding from HPD & NYSERDA.
