Dattner Architects Featured in Dezeen

Dattner Architects’ faith-based housing development, St. James Terrace, was profiled this week in Dezeen Magazine, highlighting the campus’s successful balance of historic preservation, new construction, social housing and supportive services to the surrounding Bronx community.

In conversation with the existing nineteenth century buildings within the landmarked St. James Episcopal Church’s campus, St. James Terrace features a monumental entry on Jerome Avenue, framed by Gothic arches. As Associate Principal Rachel Ehrlich explains in the article, “The new building has its own presence and identity; it needed to be a dignified home for 102 households, not a mute backdrop for the church. Those goals are reconciled through a layered series of design decisions that work together.”

We are proud to see further recognition for St. James Terrace as a case study for how faith-based housing developments can leverage community-focused design to benefit their surrounding neighborhoods.
