Two Dattner Architects’ Projects Win AIA Queens Design Awards: 116 Precinct Station House and Fabric Astoria
Two Dattner Architects’ projects received Design Awards from AIA Queens. The 116 Precinct Station House was awarded 1st place in the Institutional, Cultural, and Governmental category. Fabric Astoria was awarded 3rd place in the Multi-family Over 11-units and 5-stories category.
The Precinct Station House is part of the NYC Department of Design and Construction’s Design Excellence program. Designed to reflect the Neighborhood Policing tenets of improved communication and collaboration between local officers and residents, the station house serves as an important piece of social infrastructure.
Located between Ditmars Boulevard and 23rd Avenue in the heart of Queens, Fabric Astoria represents a thoughtful contribution to the neighborhood, balancing the historic context with modern living and enriched amenities. Inspired by historic brick warehouses, the woven ‘basket weave’ brick pattern around windows enhances visual texture, complemented by metal canopy details at the entrances that reinterpret Astoria’s industrial heritage. Its design seeks to both respect and enhance the dynamic architectural and cultural context of Astoria, creating a vibrant and meaningful addition to the area’s urban fabric.
Both projects represent the wide breadth of work that reflect Dattner Architects’ commitment to beautiful, equitable, and sustainable essential architecture.
